Building Permits
Building permits may be required for new construction, additions, renovations, alterations, and other improvements. Permit requirements vary depending on the type and scope of the project.
Before beginning construction, contact the Building Permits & Inspections Office to determine whether a permit is required and to obtain the appropriate application and information.
Inspections
Required inspections help verify that permitted work is completed according to approved plans and applicable codes. Property owners, contractors, and other responsible parties are required to schedule inspections at the appropriate stages of construction.
Property Safety
The office also supports enforcement of the Jefferson County Property Safety Ordinance, which addresses unsafe, abandoned, and dilapidated structures that may pose a risk to public health, safety, or welfare.
Jefferson County Permits & Inspections Customer Portal
The Jefferson County Office of Building Permits and Inspections uses MyGovernmentOnline (MGO) Connect to provide contractors, residents, and other customers with convenient online access to permitting and inspection services.
Customers can access the portal at www.mgoconnect.org using an existing account or create a free account with their preferred email address. The MGO Connect mobile app is also available through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
